Today we are doing a very easy DIY project. I have seen these around, but why pay for one when you can make your own?!?
The making of a Primitive Candy Cane Sign for Christmas. I had seen for sale on the internet, but why not just make our own out of leftover wood, and paint we already have, so it cost us nothing but very little time! This is a very easy project taking up little time to finish. I hope you try it out for your Christmas decor, and let me know what you think!
We start with out piece of wood.
Next we base coat it with black.
We move on to painting the candy cane, and lettering.
Finally we have sanded it all, for the aged effect, and we are finished! Wasn't that easy?
Today we are learning how to create that French Country Christmas look for very little money, and using what you would already have around the house. You need only your old pieces, glass bottles, white, or metal vases, greenery, and sticks from the yard, favorite light colored Christmas ornaments, light throws, pillows, picture frames, and such. Watch for inspiring ideas. It's really pretty simple to do, and takes very little time. It's fun just going around the house looking for everyday objects to add to your own look! There is something very calming, ans screne about a French Country Christmas, and for everyday for that matter. As the years go by I am using it more, and more in the house. Below are some of my ideas for this Christmas.
This year's theme to the home for Christmas is French Country/Old world
We have taken bits from here and there in the house, and put them together for a very simple and elegant Christmas. It took very little time, or expense.
A few dries flowers from the garden, add some rustic pieces, old Christmas treasures, and everyday objects. Keeping im mind the goal is a simple Christmas theme.

How to make a Primitive Halloween Ghost Trio for your Home!
You can view the You Tube Video, or read the steps, and see the photos below. Either way you are going to love making these easy little Ghost for your home.
There 3 little ghost are fun and easy to make for you, and the kids. They don't take very long, so the little one's are sure to stay interested, and you will have New/Old Halloween Decorations!
We begin with 3 strips of old lattice. We have
sanded off the dirt. We wouldn't want to paint over dirt.
We have also cut notches, and slants into the wood for our ghostly shapes.
Now we paint them white. I first tried white spray paint.
The spray paint did not hold, so I used white house paint. Live and learn.
Next we paint the eyes, and mouths. They are already looking ghostly, but we still have more to do! Next we move on to giving them a more primitive look.
We begin sanding the ghost here and there to resemble wear. See how it gives them an "Old" look. These are 3
happy fellows! I think we are almost done!
With the sanding all finished, we are now ready to pick out just the right spot to display them... I almost forgot, I rubbed on a coat of sealer at the end, and let that dry over night.
Here we are in out new ghostly haunting spot! They can't
wait to greet all of the little Trick or Treaters! See how easy that was!

It's that wonderful, magical, and haunting time of year again, and I have come up with a very quick and easy project to help get you in the Halloween mood.
Just follow the easy step by step instructions below, and you will be haunting in no time!
Begin by choosing your piece of wood. Draw the desired
Halloween shapes you would like. Choose the colors, and
begin painting. Remember, it's a primitive piece, so you
don't have to be perfect.
One by one the project begins to take shape. As you fnish
painting the base color you can begin to see what it is
going to look like. Now we can begin putting in the details!
Give your ghoulish creature eyes, nose, and a mouth. A little touch of red on their eyes adds to the spookiness.
I dipped a tooth brush in white paint, and spattered the entire piece with it. It adds to the look.
I also outlined the cat with white paint to bring him out

First a Primitive Rabbit on Wood, and Second a Cardboard Cut Out Bunny
Like most of my homemade crafts, I like them to be done in a very short period of time, and made from things that I already have in the house, and recycled materials.
First for the primitive Rabbit on wood, I went down to the basement and chose a piece that I thought I could work with. I sanded it, to clean off the dirt, and then drew the outline and painted my rabbit silhouette in black acrylic. Don't over think it, just draw and paint it.
Next I highlighted areas in white, like the arms, tail, mouth ears, and eyes. Finally, to give it an aged look, I sanded away some of the paint. I finished it by giving it a coat of polyurethane. Finally, the fun part, I hang it outside the front door.
On to the next bunny.
First I got my piece of cardboard, and drew the shape of bunny I wanted. Easy enough.
Next I was ready to cut out the bunny, and I painted it with a brown paint, but feel free to make it any color you choose.
I then spattered black paint using a tooth brush, cut and ties a ribbon around it's neck for decoration, and after that the bunny was all ready for Easter. If you choose to try out any of these craft projects please let me know how it went!
Now is the time to be thinking of what you will be doing for Valentine's Day, and how you want your house to look. You could come home to a very happy, and romantic place with just a little embelishing. Doesn't that sould like fun.

Have you ever wanted one of those Cone Christmas trees that you see in the stores, but you really don't want too spend $19.99 and up?
Well I am going to show you how you can do it for the cost of a $2.00 piece of poster board, and a few other items, many of which you may already have at home.
1: Take your poster board, and a pencil with a string tied to it, the length equal to the length (shorter) of the poster board. You will be using this to draw your curved line on the poster board. This is going to give you the flat bottom of the cone to sit on...so it's not a crooked tree.
2: Place one end of the string in the top corner (hold it there), and stretch out the string with the pencil attached to the bottom corner. Draw on the poster board the curve that the pencil will follow.
3: Cut the curved line that the pencil has drawn, and tape the 2 edges together to form a cone. I also taped the inside just to make sure that it would not come apart.
4: Now that you have your cone shape the fun can begin. You can decorate it any you with by using glitter, lace, Christmas wrapping paper, or what ever you can think of. I would suggest searching Google for "Cone Christmas Tree" and look at all of the ways they are decorated. In no time you will have found your favorite, or favorites.
For decorating my tree I had chosen lace that I had left over from another project. I hot glued the lace in three rings around the tree starting from the bottom. I then hot glued some wood shavings, a jute cord bow, and some pine cones to the top for an added rustic touch. For the finished I glued a few glitter snowflakes around the tree, and I thinks it looks just as I had wanted it to, but as I said...you can do what ever your little heart desires.
I plan on doing another with Christmas Songbook sheets glued to it, and stained with coffee for an aged look. As you will find out...the possibilities are endless, and you will probably end up wanting to do more than one of these since they take about an hour and a half to do. I was feeling crafty so I searched photos for a little inspiration and came up with a few quick and easy DIY ideas for Fall/Halloween crafts that anyone could do. I hope you like them.

All pieces were made with recycled wood, and painted with acrylic paints. People have already been stopping by to ask me where I got the pieces, they love them.
It's not that I didn't like the bathroom upstairs, after all I was the one who made it over before, but the time had come to give it a fresh new look. I am sure that you have felt the same way with a previous make over you had done yourself.
At left you can see the "Before" Photo. There is a mural behind the sink that I had painted, along with copper back splash tiles, two tone wall color, and added stenciling for a chair rail effect. All of the wood in the bathroom had also been stained a medium brown color. It gave the bathroom a very classy look, and I was pleased with it.
At right you can see the new look. It has been brightened up a bit. I kept the mural, but replaced the copper tiles with classic white. I also added a "stone" wall to the mural to extend it down a little past the switch plates. That way I did not have to cut the ceramic tile, and there is still more than enough for a back splash. The light fixture remained, as did the faucet. If you look in the mirror's reflection you will see that the wall has changed color. Bead board, and trim have also been added to the bottom half all around the room. You will get a better look at that in the following photos.
Aged shelving, and assorted photos, and knickknacks add to that French Country feel, as does the bead board that I had spoke about. You can see that it has brightened up the area tremendously. More white ceramic tile was added to the entry around the shower area, too.
Along with "aging" the shelving, paying attention to the details, such as the small pieces of corner trim, help to give the space that old world feel. I am very happy with how the bathroom has turned out, and I will tell let you in on a little secret, the hardest part of all of the make over was getting started. That is usually the case, but once you get going all of the other things will seem much easier. Just have an idea, and go with it. Even just painting will have a tremendous change in the space, and if you don't like it, you can always paint over it. No harm done at all.
